Six players signed to futures contracts

Six players who finished the 2018 season on the Miami Dolphins practice squad were signed to contracts that make them a part of the team’s 2019 training camp roster.

The Dolphins signed linebacker­s Quentin Poling and James Burgess, safety Chris Lammons, defensive tackle Jamiyus Pittman, center Connor Hilland and defensive end Jeremiah Valoaga to futures contracts, which agree to pay them the NFL minimum if they make Miami’s 53-man roster next fall.

The Dolphins selected Poling with their seventhrou­nd pick (227th overall) in last year’s NFL draft. He spent the entire 2018 season on Miami’s practice squad.

Burgess joined Miami for his second practice squad stint back in December after spending time with Cleveland (2016-18), Jacksonvil­le (2016), Baltimore (2016) and San Diego (2016).

The Dolphins signed the former Louisville standout as an undrafted rookie in 2016. Burgess has played in 17 career games with 11 starts for the Browns, recording 77 tackles (49 solo), four sacks, three passes defensed and one forced fumble.

Hillard and Pittman were also undrafted players Miami signed and developed on the practice squad as a rookies.

Lammons, a Plantation High product, joined the Dolphins practice squad in November.

Valoaga joined Miami’s practice squad in September after spending the 2017 season with Detroit. He played in nine gameswith the Lions.
