Mompremier nets accolades in ACC
CORAL GABLES — It has been nearly four years since a Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball player earned a spot on the ACC’s weekly honor roll.
Forward Beatrice Mompremier has finally broken through.
After recording a pair of double-doubles in Miami’s first two games of conference play, Mompremier was named a Co-ACC Player of the Week, along with Syracuse’s Tiana Mangakahia on Monday afternoon.
Mompremier, a former Miami High standout and Baylor transfer, has been a force for the Hurricanes in her first season of eligibility at Miami.
Through the Hurricanes’ first 17 games, Mompremier has notched 12 double-doubles, including an 18-point, 13-rebound effort in Miami’s 68-61 win over Virginia Tech last Thursday. She also had a 19-point, 15-rebound showing in the Hurricanes’ 72-57 win over Wake Forest on Sunday.
In Miami’s two wins last week, Mompremier averaged 18.5 points and 14 rebounds while shooting 18 of 34 from the field. She is averaging 16.2 points and 11.6 rebounds per game, which ranks seventh and second in the ACC, respectively.
Mompremier is the first UM women’s basketball player to earn conference player of the week honors since Adrienne Motley earned the distinction on Jan. 12 2015.
Since joining the ACC, only eight different Hurricanes have earned the weekly honor with Mompremier becoming the latest to join that group.
The UM women, who were sitting just outside the top 25 in the latest AP poll, are 14-3 overall and 2-0 in ACC play. The Hurricanes are set to host Clemson on Thursday morning at the Watsco Center, before traveling to Duke on Jan. 17.
