Dwayne Haskins will forgo his final year of eligibilit­y and is NFL bound after one season as Ohio State’s starting quarterbac­k. The thirdyear sophomore had been expected to enter the draft and is a projected firstround pick. The announceme­nt came on a busy day for the Buckeyes. New coach Ryan Day hired a pair of new defensive coordinato­rs — one of them from rival Michigan. Greg Mattison, who spent the last four years as defensive line coach under Jim Harbaugh, joined Day’s staff along with veteran NFL assistant Jeff Hafley. Greg Schiano, the defensive coordinato­r for the last three seasons under Urban Meyer, is out of a job . ... The College Football Playoff is not close to expanding. After a month of chatter about possible changes to the four-team playoff, the conference commission­ers and university presidents who constitute the playoff brain trust quelled the speculatio­n. “As far as expanding the number of teams in the playoff, it’s way too soon — much too soon — to know if that is even a possibilit­y,” Mississipp­i State University President Mark Keenum, the chairman of the CFP board of managers, said in a statement . ... Former Oklahoma receiver A.D. Miller will play for Illinois next season. Miller is a graduate transfer who will be immediatel­y eligible for one season . ... Former Arkansas quarterbac­k Cole Kelley is transferri­ng to Southeaste­rn Louisiana. Because he is joining an FCS program, he will be eligible immediatel­y . ... Texas quarterbac­k Vince Young and Notre Dame speedster Raghib Ismail have been selected for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame along with 11 other players and two coaches. The other inductees are Arkansas RB Darren McFadden, Oklahoma DB Rickey Dixon, John Carroll LB London Fletcher, Texas A&M DL Jacob Green, North Carolina State WR Torry Holt, Arizona State QB Jake Plummer, USC DB Troy Polamalu, Wisconsin OT Joe Thomas, Florida State DB Terrell Buckley, Michigan State RB Lorenzo White, Mississipp­i LB Patrick Willis, former Miami coach Dennis Erickson and Joe Taylor, who won 233 games at historical­ly black colleges. The Goodyear Blimp was named an honorary member.
