City Furniture names new president

- By Marcia Heroux Pounds South Florida Sun Sentinel

There’s new leadership at homegrown furniture retailer City Furniture, and it’s all in the family.

Andrew Koenig, 35, has been named president of the Tamarac-based furniture retailer, which operates 29 City Furniture and Ashley HomeStore showrooms throughout Florida.

He has been with the familyowned company for 15 years, most recently as vice president and chief operating officer. Andrew Koenig is the son of Keith Koenig, who remains CEO.

The elder Koenig said his son has been “transformational” in his leadership of the company’s statewide growth.

City Furniture has been undergoing a $100 million expansion, including the opening of its first of three showrooms in the Orlando market in November 2018.

City Furniture employs 1,850 statewide, and the company said it expects to create about 400 new jobs in South Florida and Central Florida this year.

Keith Koenig noted that his son has led City Furniture to adopt “lean management” principles and advanced technology. Andrew Koenig also has helped the company embrace “green” practices, such as the 100-truck delivery fleet running on compressed natural gas, which has cut emissions nearly in half, he said.

The company is the exclusive Southeast and Southwest Florida licensee for Ashley HomeStore.

A dual-brand City Furniture and adjacent Ashley HomeStore is scheduled for opening this year in Doral.
