Some chilly nights on the way, with temps down in the 50s

Another cold spell will hit South Florida with the overnight temperatures expected to fall into the 50s.

It’ll be chilly Tuesday morning. And it should be the even colder Tuesday night, dropping to the lowto mid-50s, the National Weather Service MiamiSouth Florida forecast office said.

Tuesday and Wednesday during the day will be pleasant, however, with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s.

Thursday and Friday will see things warm up into the upper 70s and low 80s.

Sunday, however, could see the arrival of possibly the coldest blast so far this winter. It’s still uncertain how low the mercury will plunge because it still is almost a week away, but computerbased forecast models were indicating it was going to be a “robust front” with plenty of frigid air behind it — at least, by South Florida standards.

“This pattern may bring some of the coldest air of the season to our area by early to mid next week,” said a National Weather Service forecast analysis on Monday.

Forecasters said it was too early to be certain.

“I don’t quite know if this will be the coldest of the year,” said meteorologist Arlena Moses. “It may have the potential to be, but it’s still a little far out.”

Moses said that this winter in South Florida has been “near normal” in terms of temperature. Much ofsouthern Florida has seen temperatures dip into the 40s or 50s so far this year.

“I think we’ve been pretty much close to normal,” Moses said. “Some of our warmer days have been balanced by our cooler periods.”
