Oasis Championship adds Daly to player field
Former PGA Championship winner John Daly is the most recent addition to the field for next month’s Oasis Championship in Boca Raton.
The 52-year-old has won five PGA Tour events and has picked up one PGA Tour Champions victory at the 2017 Insperity Invitational.
Daly, who was given a sponsor exemption to enter the tournament, joins a player field that already features a pair of two-time major champions in Bernhard Langer and Mark O’Meara.
Defending champion Mark Calcavecchia and Hall of Famer Colin Montgomerie will also be participating in this year’s tournament, which runs Feb. 8-10.
When Daly won the PGA Championship as the ninth alternate in 1991, he quickly became a favorite of golf fans.
He followed up his success with another major win at the 1995 British Open.
Langer is a 2002 World Golf Hall of Fame inductee and has won Player of the Year on the tour seven times. The Boca Raton resident is also a five-time Charles Schwab Cup Champion.
O’Meara, who joined the PGA Tour Champions in 2007, is in search of his first tour victory since 2010.
The Oasis Championship is the first full-field event of the PGA Tour Champions season and will be held at the Old Course at Broken Sound.
The 78-player field will compete for a $1.7 million purse with the 54-hole championship running through Friday to Sunday.
