Arena undergoes another name change

Now that BB&T and SunTrust will merge and become a larger bank with a new name, you know what that means. The Florida Panthers’ arena in Sunrise will undergo its umpteenth ‘name change’.

Since its opening, the ice hockey team (after leaving the Miami Arena) had played their home games in the National Car Rental Center, the Office Depot Center, the Bank Atlantic Center, and BB&T Center.

It must cost a fortune to change the building’s exterior signage.

This could have all been avoided if you simply name the arena after the team that plays there, and place a small plaque with the corporate sponsor’s name next to the main entrance. But, as long as major companies keep buying teams and changing those giant costly signs, we’re still going to deal with these same old hockey pucks!
