A1A Marathon to close some area roads

Some roads will be closed and traffic will be detoured in Fort Lauderdale as more than 4,000 runners take part in the 14th annual 2019 A1A Marathon this weekend, police said.

The closures will begin about 11 p.m. today as the course is being set up.

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts parking garage entrance on Southwest 5th Avenue will be closed to vehicles for the event’s set up, the start of the race, and the post-race breakdown about noon Sunday.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Southwest 2nd Street, between Southwest 7th Avenue and Southwest 4th Avenue will also be closed.

Between 6 and 7 a.m. Sunday, road closures will include:

■ Andrews Avenue between Broward Boulevard and Southeast 5th Street

■ East Las Olas Boulevard from Andrews Avenue to Southeast 15th Avenue

Between 6:30 and 11:30 a.m. there will be no vehicles or bicycles allowed on:

■ The northbound lanes of North State Road A1A from East Las Olas Boulevard north to Sunrise Boulevard.

■ Northbound and southbound

lanes along North State Road A1A, between the 800 block of Seabreeze Boulevard and Northeast 36th Street. Traffic will be detoured to the southbound lanes of North State Road A1A.

■ Eastbound traffic on Sunrise Boulevard will be directed by police at North State Road A1A to travel either northbound or southbound in the counter flow lanes.

■ There will be no beachside parallel parking along the east side of North State Road A1A between Northeast 14th and 19th streets.

Motorists should avoid delays be seeking alternate routes until about noon Sunday. Event organizers have placed message signboards throughout the race route, police said.

There will be free shuttle bus service for both runners and spectators between the Starting line at 401 SW 2nd St. and the Finish line at 1100 Seabreeze Blvd., organizers said.
