For nearly three decades, senior athletes from throughout South Florida have competed in the Delray Beach Senior Games, and this year is no different as an estimated 250 to 300 athletes are expected to compete.

The Delray Beach Parks and Recreation Department will host the 30th annual Senior Games from March 1-8 at various locations throughout Delray Beach, Boynton Beach and Boca Raton.

The Delray Beach Senior Games gives people who are 50 or older the chance to revel in the spirit of goodwill, good sportsmanship and good health, win medals and advance to the Florida State Senior Games in December.

Competitors can enter any of the nine social, recreational and competitive events, starting at $10 per person for Delray Beach residents and $20 per person for non-residents.

Events include:

■ Friday: basketball skills at 10 a.m. and mini golf at 10:30 a.m.;

■ Saturday: track and field; ■ Monday: pickleball and archery;

■ Tuesday: pickleball and golf;

■ Wednesday: pickleball and croquet;

■ March 7: swimming; ■ March 8: bowling. Custom medals will be awarded to first-, secondand third-place winners in each age division for each event, and all participants will receive a T-shirt.

Delray Beach’s marketing and special events coordinator Danielle Beardsley said the games attract active seniors who wish to be involved in a variety of social, recreational and competitive activities.
