The gunman walked into a Wendy’s restaurant waving a weapon and demanding money but he failed to get any when employees darted into a back office and locked the door, Hollywood police said.

Now, detectives are hoping someone will recognize and report the failed armed robber seen in a surveillance video.

The attempted holdup happened about 1 a.m., Feb. 19, in the Wendy’s at 3535 Hollywood Blvd., police said.

Security cameras were rolling when the robber entered the restaurant and immediately pointed a gun at a startled customer who fell backward onto the floor and stayed there.

The robber then went behind the counter, still pointing the gun at the prone customer. Two employees went into the back office when the gunman approached them and the customer is seen getting up and running out.

A short time later, the empty-handed robber ran out of the restaurant and an Uber driver reported that he ran east on Hollywood Boulevard.

The video showed the suspect was tall and slim, wearing black pants, a black hooded sweatshirt with a red bandanna covering his face, and carrying a gray backpack.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have information about this armed robbery attempt to call the Hollywood Police Department at 954-764-4357 or 954-967-4411. Tipsters can email or text to hollywoodpdtips@hollywoodfl.org.
