One of three women accusing Kellen Winslow Jr. of rape was grilled by a defense lawyer on Tuesday after testifying in a California courtroom that the former NFL player threatened to kill her.

Winslow, the son of Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow, has pleaded not guilty to 12 counts. He is accused of exposing himself to two women in addition to the three rapes.

All five women are expected to testify. The first one, Jane Doe 1, described how Winslow drove her to a shopping center parking lot and raped her in his car. She had been hitchhiking when she was picked up, she said.

“He threatened to kill me, and I really believed that he would have,” she testified in the Vista courtroom.

Defense lawyer Marc Carlos questioned her credibility, asking her if she recalled pointing at a defense lawyer when asked to to identify her assailant during a preliminary hearing in July.

“Yes, I made a mistake,” she said Tuesday.

The woman was also questioned about five public intoxication arrests, including one in January, after saying she never drank.

“It’s not about her drinking, it’s about her lying,” Carlos said as he asked the judge to dismiss the witness.

The witness told the court that “I was not sober every day for the past 30 years” but emphasized she was not the person on trial.

Judge Blaine Bowman said he would allow the defense to question her about the arrests.

A DNA expert testified that traces of Winslow’s sperm were found on a pair of pants the woman gave to investigators.
