AROUND THE HORN

Reds: The Reds are down to their fourth and fifth catchers after placing two more on the injured list Thursday. Curt Casali went on the 10-day injured list with a right knee sprain that manager David Bell said could keep him out for as long as a month. Casali is expected to spend two weeks wearing a brace. Kyle Farmer was placed on the seven-day concussion list after taking two foul balls off his mask in the ninth inning Tuesday against the Cubs. Gold Glove catcher Tucker Barnhart has been out since June 28 with a right oblique strain. Juan Graterol was promoted from Triple-A Louisville and rushed to Chicago to start Wednesday’s game. The Reds shored up the position on Thursday by signing Ryan Lavarnway one day after he was released by Yankees.

Phillies: Bryce Harper tied the game in his Phillie Phanatic headband with an RBI single, and Rhys Hoskins ripped a two-RBI single in the seventh inning to rally Philadelphia to a 7-6 victory over the Dodgers. Harper ingratiated himself with his new team on opening day when he wore Phanatic cleats. He took Phanatic fashion to the next level when he wrapped himself with a headband that comically sported the mascot’s oversized eyes on top of the slugger’s own. Phillies fans went wild in the seventh when Harper’s helmet flew off on a headfirst slide into second on the tying hit, the furry Phanatic mascot taking top billing under the cap.

Red Sox: Chris Sale and two relievers combined on a two-hitter, and the Red Sox left-hander struck out 12 in six innings for his first regular-season win at Fenway Park in more than a year with a 5-0 victory over the Blue Jays. Sale (4-9) gave up both hits and walked two to earn his first victory anywhere in a month and his first at home since July 11, 2018 — a span of 14 starts. It was his 11th game this season with 10 or more strikeouts. Rafael Devers hit a three-run homer off Thomas Pannone (2-4), who matched Sale into the fifth inning before giving up Sam Travis’ double and Sandy Leon’s RBI single. After Mookie Betts walked, Devers hit the first pitch out to right-center to make it 4-0 and chase Pannone.

Marlins: Brian Anderson doubled home the winning run with one out in the ninth inning, and the Marlins earned their first walkoff victory of the year by beating the Padres 4-3. The score was 3-3 when Garrett Cooper singled in the ninth against Trey Wingenter (1-3). Pinch runner Yadiel Rivera stole second and scored without a play on Anderson’s hit into the left field corner.

Extra innings: The Braves recalled righthander Kyle Wright from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Thursday night’s game against the Nationals. They also reinstated outfielder Ender Inciarte from the 10-day injured list. ... Mike DiMuro, among three father-son duos to work home plate in a major league no-hitter, is retiring after two decades as an umpire. He is being replaced on the big league staff by Chad Whitson, the commissioner's office said.
