Norton pays a visit to ’Canes scrimmage
Former DT’s left arm amputated after crash
Kendrick Norton has been around the Miami Dolphins in recent days since having his left arm amputated following a July 4 car accident. On Saturday night, he went back to check out his college football alma mater.
Norton visited the Miami Hurricanes’ second scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday night, as shown in a quick clip the UM football team released on Twitter on Sunday morning.
“Great to see our brother @norton_kendrick last night,” read the post, which showed him shake hands and hug Miami coach Manny Diaz, who was defensive coordinator of the Hurricanes for Norton’s last two seasons at UM.
Norton served as the Dolphins’ honorary captain for the opening coin toss of Thursday night’s preseason victory against the Atlanta Falcons at Hard Rock Stadium. He was also seen at Dolphins practice in Davie earlier in the week.
Norton’s football career ended when his left arm was amputated following a two-car accident on July 4 in Miami. The Dolphins will pay Norton’s full salary for the 2019 season.
Norton, from Jacksonville, was with the Hurricanes for three seasons before he became a seventhround pick of the Carolina Panthers in the 2018 NFL draft. In December of that year, he was signed by the Dolphins off the Panthers practice squad.
Norton was an All-ACC thirdteam selection as a sophomore in 2016 and All-ACC honorable mention as a junior in 2017 when he helped anchor the heart of a defense that had Miami start 10-0, was up to No. 2 in the College Football Playoff rankings, and reach the ACC Championship Game and Orange Bowl.
