Backstreet Boys’ jerseys up for bid

- By Johnny Diaz

Calling all Backstreet Boys and Florida Panthers fans.

There’s an auction that might just fit you to a Tee.

The boy (man) band was in town last week for sold-out performances at the BB&T Center in Sunrise as part of the group’s DNA World tour.

When they were done singing their greatest hits “I Want It That Way’’ and “Everybody”, they signed some bright orange Panthers jerseys they wore on stage.

Now those shirts are up for bids through NHL Auctions.

Often referred to as BSB, the band, which launched in Orlando in 1993, consists of Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson.

So far, the jersey with all their signatures and individual shirts from Carter, Richardson and Littrell are drawing the top bids, each at $525.

The second highest is McLean’s shirt for $250.

The least expensive is Dorough’s shirt at $175. The size L shirts, which feature No. 19, come with a certificate of authenticity from the Florida Panthers.

The auction kicked off Monday and runs through Sept. 3.

Proceeds benefit the Florida Panthers Foundation, the nonprofit group that promotes hockey in South Florida among young people; advocates for veterans’ issues; and raises awareness of the endangered Florida panther.
