■ Royals: David Glass and his family agreed to sell the franchise to an ownership group led by Kansas City entreprene­ur John Sherman in a deal expected to be worth about $1 billion. Sherman and his co-investors will become the third owners since another local businessma­n, Ewing Kauffman, founded the club in 1969. Glass, 83, and his family served as caretakers of the franchise after Kauffman’s death, and they took ownership of the club for $96 million in April 2000. Sherman will need to divest his minority interest in the Indians, believed to be about 30 percent of the franchise.

■ Cubs: Nicholas Castellano­s hit a pair of two-run HRs and Jose Quintana took a shutout into the sixth inning of a 7-1 victory over the Brewers in Chicago. Castellano­s has 11 HRs in 27 games since arriving in a trade from the Tigers. He’s batting .357 with the Cubs. Kyle Schwarber added his teamleadin­g 32nd HR in the Cubs’ fourth straight win.

■ Dodgers: INF Max Muncy was on the 10-day IL with a right wrist fracture. An MRI on Muncy, who’s batting .253 with 33 HRs and 87 RBIs, revealed a small fracture in the wrist. He was hit by a pitch during Wednesday night’s game against the Padres. X-rays on Thursday didn’t reveal the severity of the injury . ... The Dodgers extended the protective netting down both foul lines at Dodger Stadium. The team said the netting would extend an additional 124 feet on each side, spanning the distance from both dugouts to where the seats bend slightly outward in both outfield corners.

■ A’s, Yankees: Jurickson Profar delivered two tiebreakin­g hits to help the A’s beat the Yankees 8-2 in New York. Profar hit a HR in the second for a 1-0 lead and added a two-run double in the sixth for a 4-2 edge. It was the Yankees’ first loss in five games. Yankees starter CC Sabathia was pulled after three innings with a recurrence of his on-going knee issues . ... The Yankees set an MLB record when they placed 3B Gio Urshela on the IL, making him the record 29th Yankees player to land on the IL.

■ Rays: Austin Pruitt and three relievers combined on a five-hitter, Jesus Aguilar had a three-run HR during a four-run seventh and the Rays beat the Indians 4-0 in St. Petersburg, Fla . ... AL Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell (left elbow bone chip surgery) threw 15 fastballs in his first bullpen session and is “very confident” of returning before the season ends . ... RHP Tyler Glasnow, 6-1 before being sidelined in mid-May by a right forearm strain, walked one in a hitless inning during his first rehab start with Triple-A Durham.

■ Extra innings: Indians RHP Carlos Carrasco, who hasn’t pitched in the majors since late May when he was diagnosed with leukemia, rejoined the team and will be reinstated from the 60day IL on Sunday . ... Former Mets 2B Wally Backman was arrested after a domestic dispute in Riverhead, N.Y.. Backman, 59, was arrested on charges of second-degree harassment and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
