■ Astros: CF George Springer was examined for a head injury Tuesday night after running into the wall and being carted off the field at Milwaukee. The 2017 World Series MVP was walking around the clubhouse after a 4-2 loss and manager AJ Hinch said Springer was day-to-day and OK to travel back to Houston with the team. Springer was hurt making a catch on a ball hit by Ryan Braun. Springer fell to the ground and grabbed the back of his head after losing his glove. Astros personnel attended to him, and after a lengthy delay, Springer sat upright in the cart driven by Miller Park emergency attendants.

■ Yankees: Aaron Judge hit a two-run homer and Gleyber Torres added a solo shot as six pitchers combined on a seven-hitter in a 4-1 victory over the Rangers . ... OF Giancarlo Stanton will head to the team’s minor league complex in Tampa, Fla., this week for batting practice, among the final steps before returning for the final weeks of an injury-wrecked season. “I feel like he’s really starting to build some momentum and doing pretty well,” manager Aaron Boone said.

■ Nationals: The team purchased contract of RHP Aaron Barrett from Double-A Harrisburg, completing reliever’s comeback from Tommy John surgery in 2015 and fractured right arm in 2016.

■ Rays: INF Eric Sogard had his helmet and glasses knocked off by Orioles reliever Paul Fry’s pitch Tuesday night. Sogard was able off walk off the field after a brief examinatio­n by trainers and said the ball struck his shoulder first, then his helmet and nose. “It busted my nose a little bit,” Sogard said. “The way it turned out, I feel very, very lucky.”

■ Reds: Reliever Michael Lorenzen hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning as the Reds pulled away to an 8-5 victory to snap the Phillies’ three-game winning streak. The Phillies slipped to three games behind the idle Cubs for the final NL wild card.

■ Rangers: OF Scott Heineman hit his first career homer Tuesday night got a little help in retrieving the souvenir at Yankee Stadium. As Heineman rounded the bases in the ninth inning, a ball was thrown back onto the field — a ballboy scooped it up and tossed it to a fan. Yankees PA announcer Paul Olden told the crowd that it was Heineman’s first career homer and he’d like to have the ball. Turned out the ball that was thrown back was not actually the souvenir ball. But Heineman eventually got the right ball back by making an exchange with a fan from New Jersey.

■ Giants: RHP Johnny Cueto threw a bullpen Tuesday before a 1-0 loss to the Cardinals. Cueto has missed the entire season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. After the game, Bochy said Cueto sustained back tightness and the club will wait “a day or two” to see how he feels.

■ Cardinals: C Matt Wieters went to the doctor to get a cortisone shot for a mild calf strain but it was determined he did not need one. There is no timetable for his return.
