Hurricane plays havoc with schedules
University School could have tough time against McArthur
For the second week in a row, South Florida high school football teams are dealing with rescheduled games and cancellations because of Hurricane Dorian.
The Palm Beach County School District announced all athletic events were canceled for the rest of this week. Some games have been rescheduled for Monday, and private schools can still play this week.
Adam Lichtenstein predicts the outcome of this week’s most interesting games involving teams from Broward and Palm Beach. He is 12-5 this season.
All games are Friday at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted. this game ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 4A, has a pair of good wins under its belt to start the year, but they may have come at a price: junior quarterback Nick Vattiato left Friday’s win over Hialeah with an injury, and he won’t return until Week 4. U-School utilized playmaking freshman Brandon Innis as a wildcat quarterback when Vattiato left the game last week. McArthur’s strong defense will make things tough on the Sharks. University School 14, McArthur 13. Palm Beach Lakes (1-0) at Glades Central (2-0), Monday, 6:30 p.m.
Two of the top teams in Palm Beach square off for the premier Monday night game. The Rams were off last week because of Dorian, while the Raiders needed overtime to beat Wellington. Lakes beat Wellington handily when they played in Week 1, so I’ll give the Rams the advantage on Monday. Palm Beach Lakes 24, Glades Central 20. American Heritage (1-1) at Miramar (1-1)
Both of these teams come into Friday’s game licking some wounds. American Heritage’s trip to D.C. ended with a big loss, while Miramar gave up a twoscore lead and lost to Dillard. Both losses were surely disappointing, but I think the Patriots are the ones who rebound. American Heritage 28, Miramar 17. Dillard (2-0) at Pahokee (0-1), Monday, 6:30 p.m.
The Panthers were on the flip side of that Miramar game, launching a furious comeback to secure their second win of the year. They travel to the Muck to face Pahokee, which didn’t play last week because of Dorian. The Blue Devils struggled mightily against U-School in Week 1, and Dillard is very tough, too.
Dillard 21, Pahokee 13. Monarch (2-0) at Pompano Beach (0-1)
Monarch has gotten off to a good start this season, outscoring its two opponents 84-8. This week should not be much different, as the Knights’ highscoring offense goes to Pompano. Quarterback Pete Zamora, who has seven passing touchdowns so far this year, pledged $25 for Hurricane Dorian relief efforts for each touchdown he throws on Friday. He could have a lot. Monarch 48, Pompano Beach 10. Olympic Heights (0-2) at Palm Beach Central (1-1) Monday, 6:30 p.m.
The Broncos recovered from a Week 1 loss to Atlantic by routing Dwyer. Quarterback Anarjahe Douriet threw six touchdowns, including three to Bryan Robinson, in the win. If they keep that up, they should handle Olympic Heights on Monday.
Miami Springs (1-1) at Western (1-0)
Western should be wellrested for this game, as their Week 1 game ended quickly with a running clock, and their Week 2 trip to Georgia was canceled. But the Wildcats, who are ranked third in Class 8A, are almost certainly eager to get back on the field, and Miami Springs is a good team to square off against after some time off. Western 35, Miami Springs 20. Miami LaSalle (1-0) at Benjamin (1-0), Friday, 6:30 p.m.
The Buccaneers will be one of the few Palm Beach County teams in action on Friday night. They host LaSalle after last week’s game against Cardinal Newman was canceled. The Bucs showcased a highpowered offense, and they get another chance to show
it off this week. Benjamin
42, LaSalle 14. Fort Pierce John Carroll (2-0) at American Heritage-Delray (1-1), Saturday, 7 p.m.
The Stallions recovered from their low-scoring loss against Vero Beach with a dominant performance against Coral Springs Charter. Heritage will look to keep that trend going when it hosts John Carroll on Saturday night. American Heritage-Delray 32, John Carroll 17. Miami Christian (0-1) at Chaminade-Madonna (2-0)
Chaminade’s offense was firing on all cylinders in its Week 2 win over Hallandale. The Lions can’t take Miami Christian lightly, as the Victors boast stars such as four-star wide receiver Marc Britt and Florida Gators offensive lineman commit Jovens Janvier. Chaminade-Madonna 30, Miami Christian 20.
