Oz, Clarkson find new TV homes

- By Johnny Diaz

“The Dr. Oz Show” is getting an earlier start in South Florida.

The popular daytime syndicated talk show with part-time Palm Beach resident Mehmet Oz will broadcast noon weekdays on WTVJ-Ch. 6, the NBC station in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

The move is part of a programming shuffle in daytime TV.

Oz’s previous 2 p.m. slot will be occupied by “The Kelly Clarkson Show,’’ which features the first “American Idol’’ winner singing, interviewing guests and performing skits. Her debut show will feature former University of Miami football player Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who filled in at the last minute for comedian Kevin Hart, who was injured in a car crash last week in California.

The 2 p.m. time slot for Clarkson’s show also applies to WPTV-Ch. 5 in West Palm Beach.

In an interview with NBC 6 morning anchor Roxanne Vargas, Clarkson said she would open about her home life, such as getting her kids to brush their teeth and taking naps.

“We’re going to talk about stuff like that on the show. I mean, I’ll talk about everything,’’ said Clarkson, who recently appeared as a judge on NBC’s “The Voice” singing competition show.

“There’s no filter. That’s why we made our whole theme no filter, true colors. That’s what you’re going to get when you tune in because I am honestly incapable of not being that.”

Clarkson also said that she will kick off each show with a cover of a song by one of her favorite artists.

“I love doing that and honoring the artist,’’ she said.

This is the 11th season of Oz’s show, which replaces comedian Steve Harvey’s show “Steve,” which NBC canceled in May after seven years.

Dr. Oz continues to air 3 p.m. weekdays on WPBFCh. 25 in West Palm Beach.

On his season premiere, Oz talks about how his mom was diagnosed Alzheimer’s disease and how he had missed the signs.

“Hearing the official diagnosis was devastating. But just as painful for me was the realization that the signs were there all along — I had just been overlooking them,” he posted on Twitter in a preview to the episode. Maria Shriver, whose late father Sargent Shriver suffered from the memory disorder, also appears in the episode.
