Quick slant: For the second time in program history, FAU (0-2) will face off against Ball State (1-1). The Cardinals defeated the Owls 31-27 in the teams’ first matchup against each other on Sept. 24, 2016, in FAU Stadium.

About FAU: FAU can accomplish two firsts for the price of one on Saturday; defeat Ball State and get its first win of the season. The Owls suffered a 45-21 seasonopening loss to then No. 5 Ohio State before falling to No. 18 UCF 48-14 on Saturday. FAU coach Lane Kiffin called the loss to UCF an “embarrassing” performance and apologized for the showing. The loss was team’s worst home defeat since losing to Western Kentucky’s 52-3 rout in October 2016. The Cardinals are the first non-ranked team the Owls will face this year. Freshman running back Larry McCammon received more playing time against UCF after BJ Emmons broke his ankle against Ohio State. McCammon received a team-high 18 carries for 48 yards and scored the Owls’ only touchdown against UCF. About Ball State: The Cardinals opened the 2019 season with a 34-24 loss against Indiana before rebounding the next week with a 59-27 win over Fordham. Ball State out-gained the Rams by 292 yards and quarterback Drew Plitt completed 32 of his 40 passes, throwing for 439 yards and 6 touchdowns. Plitt is tied for the fourth-most touchdowns in the FBS with eight and has passed for the sixth-most yards (737). Riley Miller paced the team in receiving yards with 116 yards on six receptions. Miller and Antwan Davis both caught two touchdowns. Ball State linebacker Christian Albright led the Cardinals in tackles for losses against Fordham with six.
