‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’ tour coming to Coral Springs
A 20-city tour to celebrate the 35th anniversary of “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” will bring the cultfavorite film and its star, Paul Reubens, to the Coral Springs Center for the Arts on March 14.
The evening will include a screening of “Peewee’s Big Adventure” and Reubens sharing “amazing stories” about the making of movie, which marked the feature-film directing debut of Tim Burton.
Tickets are on sale and start at $42.27. Several levels of VIP tickets also will be available, and include backstage passes, photo and mingling opportunities with Reubens. For more information, visit TheCenterCS.com.
A native of Sarasota, Reubens turned the lovable character he developed as part of the Los Angeles-based sketchcomedy troupe the Groundlings into a cottage industry that has included TV shows, an HBO special, three films (he’s writing scripts for new adventures) and a Broadway hit.
Of course, it is hard to overstate the cultural influence of “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure,” which redefined what it means to be a manchild with such iconic, oft-repeated lines as “I’m a loner, Dottie. A rebel.”
The film was co-written by the late comic actor Phil Hartman, who is among many well-known faces who turn up in odd supporting roles — and may turn up in Reubens’ stories on tour. They include Milton Berle, James Brolin, Morgan Fairchild, Cassandra (Elvira) Peterson, Robert Hegyes (“Welcome Back, Kotter”), Twisted Sister and Burton himself.
