Four Inter Miami games revealed
Four Inter Miami CF preseason games to be played ahead of the franchise’s inaugural season in the MLS have been announced, although not by Inter Miami.
Inter Miami will face off against the Philadelphia Union in the 2020 Rowdies Suncoast Invitational at 4 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Al Lang Field in St. Petersburg. Admission to the game will be free and no ticket is required.
The expansion team will return to Al Lang Field on Feb. 22 to play FC Dallas at 9 a.m. Inter Miami will also face off against the Tampa Bay Rowdies, a USL championship team, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. in its second contest in the 2020 Rowdies Suncoast Invitational. Admission to the game is also free and no ticket is required.
Inter Miami will also play New York City FC during the preseason. The time, date and site of the game hasn’t been announced yet, but New York’s website lists the city as Boca Raton.
Calls to FAU, a possible venue in Boca, were not immediately returned.
Here are the club’s four preseason games, as announced on the opposing teams’ websites:
■ versus Philadelphia Union at 4 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Al Lang Field in St. Petersburg
■ versus New York City FC in Boca Raton
■ versus FC Dallas at 9 a.m. on Feb. 22 at Al Lang Field in St. Petersburg
■ versus the Tampa Bay Rowdies at 7 p.m. on Feb. 22 at Al Lang Field in St. Petersburg
There has been no indication the team’s new stadium, at the former site of Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, will be ready in time for preseason games. As of now, the regular-season home opener on March 14 against the Los Angeles Galaxy appears to be the first time fans will be able to see the facility.
The team announced in 2019 it would play in a new stadium in Fort Lauderdale for the first two years before moving to a new stadium in Miami. However, the team still does not have a deal to buy land in Miami-Dade County, so any construction is still a ways off.
The expansion team will start regularseason play on the road March 1 against Los Angeles FC.
