Sun Sentinel Palm Beach Edition
Richard S. Cutshaw
Please sign guestbook on www.sun-sentinel.com/obituaries Richard S. Cutshaw 70, formerly of Dalton Massachusetts, was an innocent bystander who was tragically killed in the crossfire of a December 5th shootout in Miramar, Florida between police and jeweler store robbers who highjacked a UPS truck and then lead police on a 23-mile chase from Coral Gables, Florida. Richard was sitting in his car on his way home from a job he loved when the intersection around him erupted into a war zone. We cannot understand this senseless tragedy.
Richard was born in Columbus, Ohio on November
23, 1949 the son of Evelyn York Cutshaw and the late Robert Cutshaw. He was a 1968 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School. Rick attended Westfield State College until moving to Florida in the early 1980s where he lived the remainder of his life. Rick worked tirelessly his whole life trying to make lives better for the thousands of people he represented through the United Food and Commercial Workers Union in Florida. Currently he was a field representative for the Government Supervisors Association of Florida / OPEIU Local 100.AFL- CIO. His work wasn’t done, and at 70 he still hadn’t retired. We think he would have missed the interaction with the staff and members of the Local
100 too much.
Sadly, we will no longer see his smile, hear his laughter, or roll our eyes at those jokes, or see the playfulness he always displayed. We are heartbroken. We also would like to extend our condolences and prayers to UPS Driver, Frank Ordonez and his young family. Richard leaves his mother, Evelyn Cutshaw of
Rochester NY; sisters Patricia Richards also of Rochester, Barbara Duffy of Pittsfield MA, and Susan Farrell of Altamonte Springs FL. Two brothers Thomas Cutshaw and his wife Helen of Mt. Dora FL and David Cutshaw and his wife Gerda of Halstenbek, Germany. He also leaves his dear friends Mr. and Mrs. David Barry, Mr. & Mrs. Bill Barry; Mr. and Mrs.Gary Prody, Mr. & Mrs. Gary Prody Jr., Glenn Wilsey Jr. and his fiancee Whitney. Richard also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.
