One of the top players in Broward County is transferring from one private school to another.

Dallas Turner, the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s 2019 Broward County Class 5A-1A defensive player of the year, has transferred from American Heritage to St. Thomas Aquinas, Turner told the Sun Sentinel on Wednesday. Turner’s transfer was first reported by WQAM.

Turner, a defensive end and linebacker, had a dominant junior season with the Patriots. He had a teamleading 15 sacks, 74 tackles and 18 tackles for loss. He and the Heritage defense allowed only 13 points per game last season. He was also named a MaxPreps Junior All-American after the season.

“It’s just all the blessings that God gave me,” Turner said last year. “I’m just utilizing it well and just having fun and playing the game I love to play.”

Turner is rated a fourstar prospect by 247 Sports’ composite ranking. He is listed as the No. 18 outside linebacker, and No. 258 overall player in the 2021 class.

Turner has offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami and more.

Other notable defensive players have transferred to and from American Heritage this offseason. Five-star 2021 safety James Williams announced he was transferring back to the Patriots on Jan. 7. Four-star 2022 defensive end Richard Thomas announced he was transferring from Heritage to Deerfield Beach on Sunday.

Several other talented players have announced transfers to St. Thomas Aquinas this offseason, including former Cardinal Newman linebacker Jaydon Hood, former American Heritage-Delray offensive lineman Gunnar Hansen, and former Miami Carol City defensive end Tyrique Owens.

The Raiders are the reigning Class 7A state champions, and they were named the national champions by GEICO after playing in the GEICO State Champions Bowl Series.
