There’s an election coming up this year, you might have heard. In fact, there are three of them: The presidential preference primary, the primary and the general.

In the presidential preference primary, held in March, voters who are party members will select their candidate — even Republicans have four candidates to choose from, though President Donald Trump is almost certain to win. Then, the rest of the primary elections take place in August, with the general election to follow in November.

There are registration deadlines to be able to vote in these elections. And there are dates by which absentee ballots must be mailed, deadlines for proposed constitutional amendments, and other important dates in the lead-up to Nov. 3.

Here are some dates you may need to know. Although we’ve included registration dates for all three elections, you only need to register once, and if you’ve previously registered to vote, there’s no need to do so again, though you may want to check with your county supervisor of elections to make sure they have you on file.

Early voting dates are included for primary and general elections in Palm Beach County, but Broward and Miami-Dade have not yet set dates for early voting in those elections.
