Grizzard to coach wide receivers
Flores rounds out his overhauled staff by promoting assistant
The Miami Dolphins promoted Josh Grizzard to be the team’s new wide receivers coach on Wednesday, putting the final touch on coach Brian Flores’ overhauled staff.
Grizzard replaces former receivers coach and assistant head coach Karl Dorrell, who left the Dolphins to take the head coaching job at the University of Colorado last month.
Grizzard spent the last three seasons as a quality control coach for the Dolphins and worked closely with Dorrell and Miami’s receivers last season. He was promoted to assistant wide receivers coach shortly before Dorrell’s departure, and will now be tasked with coaching the entire group.
The Dolphins also announced that tight
ends coach George Godsey and special teams coach Danny Crossman will assume expanded roles on Flores’ staff to replace Dorrell’s duties as assistant head coach.
Flores overhauled his coaching staff after the team went 5-11 in 2019 in his first season as Dolphins coach.
Flores hired nine new coaches, promoted two others from within and relegated one assistant to a new role during the offseason.
Flores promoted Josh Boyer to defensive coordinator, hired Chan Gailey as offensive coordinator and named Robby Brown quarterbacks coach, Steve Marshall offensive line coach, Lemuel Jeanpierre assistant offensive line coach, Anthony Campanile linebackers coach, Austin Clark outside linebackers coach, Gerald Alexander defensive backs coach and Curt Kuntz as assistant defensive backs coach.
Godsey, Crossman, running backs coach Eric Studesville and defensive line coach Marion Hobby were retained, while Rob Leonard was reassigned to assistant defensive line coach.
In addition to losing Dorrell, defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and assistant quarterbacks coach Jerry Schuplinski joined the New York Giants. Flores fired offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea, and did not retain offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo and safeties coach Tony Oden.
