Basa-Ama, McFarlane, Legiste, Weir honored

Quartet named first-team all-state; 4 others represente­d

Broward and Palm Beach counties had eight representa­tives on the Florida Associatio­n of Basketball Coaches Class 3A and Class 4A All-State teams, including four first-team selections.

St. Andrew’s forward Yussif Basa-Ama and Chaminade-Madonna forward Andre Weir were selected to the Class 3A first team, while Stranahan forward Inady Legiste and University School guard Roger McFarlane were picked for the Class 4A first team.

St. Andrew’s forward Joshua Minott was named to the Class 3A second team. Calvary Christian forward Gregg Glenn and Westminste­r Academy forward Ben Middlebroo­ks were named to the Class 3A third team, and in Class 4A University School guard Jett Howard was named to the third team.

Basa-Ama, the Sun Sentinel’s Palm Beach Class 5A-1A Player of the Year, helped lead the Scots to their first state championsh­ip. The senior forward, who was a preseason Fab Five pick, averaged 15.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game and had a dominant two games in Lakeland, scoring 48 points and 17 rebounds in the state semifinal and title game.

The FABC named Basa-Ama the Class 3A Player of the Year on April 18. He is a Yale commit and is rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports.

Legiste, who was a preseason Fab Five pick, also helped lead his team to a state championsh­ip. The senior forward averaged 16 points, 11 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. In Lakeland, Legiste, who was a first-team all-county pick, had 28 points and 12 rebounds over two games.

McFarlane was also a first-team allcounty selection. He averaged 16.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game and is rated a three-star prospect in 247Sports’ composite ranking. He holds offers from Appalachia­n State and James Madison, among others.

Weir, who was a first-team all-county pick, helped the Lions reach the Class 3A state semifinals, where they lost to St. Andrew’s. Weir had a dominant season, averaging 19 points and 14 rebounds per game. He is signed to play at Richmond.

Minott, a junior forward and preseason Fab Five selection, averaged a St. Andrew’s-best 17.2 points per game while also averaging 7.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. A first-team all-county selection, he scored 32 points and had 14 rebounds in the state semifinals and title game. Minott holds offers from Dayton, FAU and FGCU.

Glenn, a Fab Five pick entering his sophomore season, averaged 14.6 points and six rebounds per game. Glenn is rated a four-star prospect and the No. 36 player in his class. He holds offers from Florida, Florida State and Miami and was a firstteam all-county selection.

Middlebroo­ks, who was also a preseason Fab Five pick and a first-team allcounty selection, averaged 17.8 points, 13.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game as a sophomore. He holds offers from Florida, Iowa State and Wake Forest.

Howard, the son of former NBA player and current Michigan coach Juwan Howard, was a second-team all-county selection as a sophomore. He finished the season with 15.6 points, 3.7 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game. Howard is rated a four-star prospect and the No. 54 player in the 2022 class, and holds offers from Florida, Michigan and Vanderbilt.
