DeSantis task force a ‘farce’

On the Re-Open Florida Task Force appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, there are only 17 women among the 100 task force members. That’s pathetic.

Even more ridiculous is the omission of Nikki Fried, our elected Agriculture Commissioner, the only Democrat in the Florida Cabinet and only Cabinet member left off this committee.

As an independent voter, it sickens me how DeSantis obviously doesn’t intend to work for all Floridians, just those who fall within his party lines.

I will never join either party, and do my best to see all the sides of issues and candidates before I decide where my vote goes. This task force is a farce as far as I can see, I challenge them to prove me wrong.

‘Responsible’ protesters

Those protesters who are urging a premature opening of the states in the midst of the pandemic crisis claim they’ll take “personal responsibility” for their action.

Does that mean when they fall ill from COVID-19 from their irresponsible behavior they’ll stay away from already overburdened hospitals? For the sake of health care providers, like my husband, I’d hope so, but I doubt it.

Absurd protesters

I have disagreed with Jonah Goldberg many times both personally and in letters to the editor of the Sun Sentinel. But I feel I must applaud him for his comments in today’s op-ed: “Quarantine protesters are no heroes of civil disobedience”.

Aside from the grossly inappropriate comparison with Rosa Parks presented by Stephen Moore, the very nature of the protests against closures related to the pandemic is absurd.

I am reminded of the scene in the movie “Jaws” where the mayor insists the beaches are safe because of the loss of revenue from closing them. That is until beach goers begin to be eaten by the shark. These recent protests in swing states smacks of the same absurd mentality.

Hypocritical Biden

What irony? The Sun-Sentinel reported that the Biden presidential campaign staff returned a $2,800 donation from comedian Louis C.K., because five women accused him of sexual misconduct.

So Joe Biden doesn’t like people who were accused of sexual misconduct. That’s a joke.

Building a better world

I’m writing in praise of the op-ed by Ana Menendez regarding building a better world and realizing, in this time of crisis, we need to do so.

Let us direct our thinking about how we live in our interconnected and evershrinking natural world.

We need to rethink how we are affecting our planet with our daily lives (when they return), where we live, what we eat, what goods we consume.

Just like the Coronavirus, these problems are real and need attending. We are in the midst of a wake-up call, alarming us that some changes need to be made.

It saddens me beyond words that we aren’t able to realize we are in danger of losing everything we hold dear.
