Fort Lauderdale — A Pompano Beach man is facing 16 charges after a collision with a motorcycle that left the rider with a broken back and his female passenger battered, according to Fort Lauderdale police.

Michael Shane Fillmore, 63, was drunk at the wheel of a silver Nissan Maxima in the 900 block of State Road A1A about 6:10 p.m. on April 19, police said.

According to the arrest report, security camera video shows the Nissan speeding east

on Northwest Ninth Street and rear-ending the motorcycle then running a red light at State Road A1A and crashing into vehicles that were in the intersection.

A witness told police he saw the Nissan hit the motorcycle and push it into the intersection. Fillmore was seen getting out of the Nissan and then attacking the woman passenger who fell from the motorcycle, the report stated.

The motorcycle driver, the female passenger and Fillmore were taken to Broward Health Medical Center.

Doctors told police the driver of the motorcycle sustained a broken back, fractured pelvis and a spinal cord injury. The woman’s injuries were described as not life-threatening, investigators said.

Blood test results showed a blood alcohol level of .191 which is more than twice Florida’s legal limit of .08, detectives said.

Fillmore was arrested April 19, but the list of charges continued to grow through Friday to include DUI, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated stalking, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury and damage to property, records show.

At Fillmore’s court appearance Friday morning, Broward assistant state attorney Eric Linder requested a high bond amount citing the severity of the injuries.

“The injuries suffered by the victims in this case include, but are not limited to, spinal cord injury, shattered pelvis, broken back,” he said.

Broward Judge Corey Amanda Cawthon set bonds totaling $95,500.
