Where to find free meals in South Florida during the pandemic

With the rapid spread of the coronaviru­s in the community, one of the biggest growing concerns has been putting food on the table. Broward and Palm Beach County Public Schools along with other organizati­ons have teamed up to make sure that families don’t go to sleep hungry. ➤ FARM SHARE Dates: Vary Details: Farm Share distribute­s fresh food free-of-charge to families, children, seniors and individual­s in need throughout Florida. The local non-profit partnered with Lyft, the driving service, to deliver food to those unable to reach the distributi­on sites. Bags included fresh produce, frozen proteins, nonperisha­ble goods and bottled water. Details: Anyone in need, or individual­s who meet the qualificat­ions on the income eligibilit­y form. Drive-through grab-n-go meals will be offered at various locations during different days during the week. Times and locations change from a week-to-week basis. For those in the most critical situations, can be provided home deliveries.

➤ POLLO TROPICAL Dates: Monday -Friday Hours: 11 a.m. -noon Details: Children age 12 and under are eligible to receive a free meal from Pollo Tropical at all locations in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Children must be accompanie­d by a parent or guardian to receive the deal. Pollo Tropical will offer one free Kids Classic Tropichop with chicken, rice and beans along with a small bottle of water per child. No purchase, coupon or promotiona­l code is necessary for the promotion.

Details: Seniors age 60 and up who are in need of food resources can request a frozen meal delivery to their residence for no cost. ➤ BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF BROWARD COUNTY Dates: Monday - Saturday Hours: Monday - Friday: 4-6 p.m. ; Saturday: Noon- 2 p.m.

Details: The Boys & Girls Club of Broward County will be offering grab-and-go meals for club members ages 6-18, while supplies last. Daily meals will include a variety of different sandwiches as well as healthy snacks such as cheese, fruit, vegetables and more. ➤ CENTRAL BROWARD REGIONAL PARK Date: Monday, June 1 Hours: 9 -11 a.m. Details: Spearheade­d by Feeding South Florida, food will be distribute­d on a firstcome, first-served basis while supplies last. With the park’s State Road 7 (US 441) entrance closed, attendees will enter westbound through the Sunrise Boulevard entrance, just east of State Road 7 and west of I-95 on the north side. ➤ HOLY MACKEREL BREWERY Dates: Tuesday - Sunday Details: Holy Mackerel Brewery in Wilton Manors will be feeding all first responders for free, who are in uniform. Along with first responders, out-of-work employees from the restaurant business are also applicable for this deal as long as they show proof of employment such as a pay stub. Restaurant business employees are asked to call ahead to reserve the prepared food. The establishm­ent has created a drive-through pick-up system and allows guests to drive up to a tent for service.
