Kylie Jenner, Forbes spar over story

-

Forbes magazine, which once declared Kylie Jenner a billionaire on its cover, says she no longer deserves the title, but Jenner is pushing back.

Forbes said in a story posted Friday that an examination of financial filings after the reality star and beauty mogul sold a majority share in her cosmetics company, revealed that Jenner’s worth was inflated. Jenner sold 51% of her Kylie Cosmetics company to Coty in a deal valued at $1.2 billion early this year.

“Kylie’s business is significantly smaller, and less profitable, than the family has spent years leading the cosmetics industry and media outlets, including Forbes, to believe,” the magazine said in the story. “Forbes now thinks that Kylie Jenner, even after pocketing an estimated $340 million after taxes from the sale, is not a billionaire.”

Jenner responded in a series of tweets, saying, “what am i even waking up to. i thought this was a reputable site. all i see are a number of inaccurate statements and unproven assumptions lol. i’ve never asked for any title or tried to lie my way there EVER. period.”

She later tweeted, “but okay, i am blessed beyond my years, i have a beautiful daughter, and a successful business and i’m doing perfectly fine. i can name a list of 100 things more important right now than fixating on how much money i have.”

Jenner’s business and social media prominence have made her stand out even in the exceedingly famous family behind “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” She is the younger daughter of Kris and Caitlyn Jenner, sister to Kendall Jenner and half-sister to Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian.

Celebrity support: Following the death of George Floyd, many celebrities have come together to raise money for the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which helps protesters who have been arrested and need to post bail. After President Donald Trump tweeted about it being “MAGA Night” at the White House after protesters gathered outside on Friday, Chrissy Teigen announced she would donate

$100,000 to bail people out. She later upped her commitment to $200,000. The Safdie brothers and Seth Rogen started a chain of donations, with Steve Carell, Ben Schwartz and Don Cheadle matching contributions. Harry

Styles, Kehlani, Lil Nas X, Noname and Kali Uchis also made donations.

Taking a stand: In an unusual move, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO, Starz and other major Hollywood players are using their corporate social media accounts to take a stand and support the Black Lives Matter movement. Netflix tweeted on Saturday: “To be silent is to be complicit. Black lives matter. We have a platform, and we have a duty to our Black members, employees, creators and talent to speak up.” The move drew accolades from director Ava DuVernay and “Orange Is the New Black” star Uzo Aduba. YouTube on Friday posted that “We stand in solidarity against racism and violence. When members of our community hurt, we all hurt. We’re pledging $1M in support of efforts to address social injustice.”

June 1 birthdays: Actor Morgan Freeman is 83. Guitarist Ron Wood is 73. Actress Lisa Hartman Black is 64. Actress Teri Polo is 51. Model Heidi Klum is 47. Comedian Amy Schumer is 39. Actress Zazie Beetz is 29.
