Two men console each other outside of a home where a woman was shot to death in Pompano Beach on Monday.

POMPANO BEACH – Twin baby girls were found at the scene of a fatal shooting Monday in Pompano Beach, the Broward Sheriff ’s Office said.

An unidentifi­ed woman was shot dead about 5:15 a.m. at Palm Aire Gardens North, in the 600 block of Gardens Drive.

She was related to the children, the Sheriff’s Office said, but it wouldn’t explain how.

The two girls were removed from the condo and are in the custody of the Department of Children & Families. A Sheriff’s Office spokeswoma­n said the girls were younger than 1 but did not know their exact age.

“Currently, we have crime scene and homicide detectives on scene investigat­ing the circumstan­ces behind this death,” said Gerdy St. Louis, a spokeswoma­n for the Sheriff’s Office. “We did locate two infant twins inside the residence. We can confirm they are related to the victim,

Two people, visibly distraught, hugged each other on a porch near the scene on Monday morning.

The death is being investigat­ed as a homicide, officials said.

Sheriff’s Office officials said they believe the shooting was an isolated incident with no threat to the public. They provided no additional informatio­n Monday afternoon.
