Kanye West pulls Trump support

- Tribune news services

Kanye West is all in on his own presidential campaign.

The hip-hop star said he’s not supporting President Donald Trump anymore as West begins his run for the Oval Office, according to Forbes.

“I am taking the red hat off, with this interview,” West told the business magazine.

West, 43, had voiced his support for Trump in the past, including wearing the red hat reading “Make America Great Again” that’s synonymous with the president’s campaign.

The “Famous” rapper took issue with reports that Trump went to an underground bunker amid recent protests at the White House. “It looks like one big mess to me,” West said. “I don’t like that I caught wind that he hid in the bunker.”

West announced his plans to run for president Saturday. As of Monday, it didn’t appear that West had officially filed to become a candidate, according to the BBC.

In the new interview, West said would have run as a Republican if Trump wasn’t a candidate, but will be an independent candidate under the “Birthday Party” with Wyoming preacher Michelle Tidball as his running mate.

West also told Forbes he had the coronavirus in February.

“Chills, shaking in the bed, taking hot showers, looking at videos telling me what I’m supposed to do to get over it,” West said. “I remember someone had told me Drake had the coronavirus, and my response was ‘Drake can’t be sicker than me!’ ”

West told Forbes his campaign slogan will be “Kanye West YES,” and that he’s running under the “Birthday Party” because “when we win, it’s everybody’s birthday.”

The show is being touted as the first in a series of concert films that will “deliver a front-row look at the world’s most iconic recording artists” — and that will “include cinematic interviews and storytelling.”
