Street party turns deadly

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies work the scene of a shooting in unincorpor­ated Broward County, Sunday. Four people were shot and two were killed in the incident, which began during a street party.

A ‘whole heap of shots’ fired during a street party left two dead and two wounded on Sunday.

Neighbors described a chaotic scene with “people running everywhere” after the shooting started about 1:30 a.m. near the 3000 block of Northwest 12th Court in unincorpor­ated Broward County.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found four people bleeding from gunshot wounds, said Gerdy St. Louis, a spokeswoma­n for the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Two people died at the scene; the wounded were taken to local hospitals.

The names and ages of the victims were not released late Sunday.

Genesie Homes, a neighbor who witnessed the shooting, described a chaotic scene with “people running everywhere” after the shooting started in the middle of a street party.

“A girl was running and fell,” she said. “I was trying to revive her. She still had a pulse. I worked on her until police took over. She was shot in the head.”

Several calls came in to 911 to report the shooting.

“All of 30th Terrace was full of people,” Homes said. “I heard a whole heap of shots. We were all running and ducking.”

When deputies arrived, they found four people bleeding from gunshot wounds.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue arrived to treat the wounded, but two victims died at the scene.

Paramedics rushed the other two to a local hospital for treatment.

The names and ages of the victims have not yet been released.

Homes said the woman she tried to help was 24 years old.

One man driving a car through the neighborho­od was also shot and taken to the hospital, Homes said.

“He was just driving through,” she said.
