Miami Heat starters Bam Adebayo and Kendrick Nunn on Thursday cleared quarantine in the NBA’s “bubble” setting at Disney World, each producing the required second negative COVID-19 result while on the league’s campus.

The two are now free to rejoin the team at Friday’s practice and cleared to participate in upcoming scrimmages and games. The Heat did not have a formal practice scheduled for Thursday, although court time was available.

Adebayo and Nunn arrived Tuesday at Disney, two weeks after the rest of the 17-player roster. The Heat declined to offer specifics for the delayed arrival, citing medical confidentiality.

Teammate Jimmy Butler said he is confident the two quickly can get back up to speed in advance of the Heat’s Aug. 1 resumption of the regular season.

“You get in there and you just hoop for a little, get a rhythm in a couple of scrimmages and then be ready to go,” Butler said in the wake of Wednesday’s 104-98 scrimmage victory over the Sacramento Kings. “I know that they’re going to be in shape, because they’ve been doing what they’re supposed to be doing. But we really do need these guys, want these guys back ASAP.”

Butler said he has little concern about their conditioning.

“We know that they will be in shape,” he said. “It’s the Miami Heat way. It’s the culture here. They’ve been doing everything that they can to make sure when they do get back, when they are both back with the team, that they’ll hit the ground running.”

Friday would be the first time the current Heat roster will practice as a complete team — ever.

Center Meyers Leonard had been sidelined since early February through the league’s March 11 pandemic stoppage, due to an ankle injury.

That had left him without a workout prior to Disney with the Feb. 8 tradedeadline acquisitions of Andre Iguodala, Jae Crowder and Solomon Hill. Then, when the NBA allowed the resumption of team workouts these past two weeks for the first time since March, Adebayo and Nunn were absent.

“They are our key pieces,” Butler said of Nunn and Adebayo. “They’re very, very important to what we want to try to accomplish this year, and probably for many more years moving forward. More than basketball, we just want our brothers back.”
