CLARIFICATION

-

The 2020 Voter Guide published in Sunday’s Sun Sentinel omitted part of an answer for one of the candidates in the Broward State Attorney Democratic primary. Here is the candidate’s biography and priority.

James “Jimmy Stewart” Lewis

Age :62

Occupation: Attorney, Adjunct Law Professor

Education: B.A. Criminal Justice; Public Administration 1978 UCF, J.D. Stetson Uni. College of Law 1980

Family: Divorced, four children and one grandchild

Priority: Public Corruption: Law enforcement efforts to fight public corruption in Broward County can be summed up in 2 words, anemic and abysmal. Good old boy politics are alive and well in Broward. One current example exists is this State Attorney race. Candidate Joshua Rydell received the firefighter’s union endorsement before they even knew who the other candidates were. This is because a county commissioner friend of his got him the endorsement from the union. That same county commissioner also got his law firm friends to fund Mr. Rydell’s campaign with over $350,000.00 dollars of political contributions for this race. It’s quid pro quo all over again. We don’t need a State Attorney who is compromised in this way. The State Attorney should be free from political influence and not beholding to any other elected official. If I am elected State Attorney, I will investigate public corruption, not be a part of it. I will put public officials or employees in jail if they abuse the public trust. I will expose the wasting of tax payer dollars and stop it. The wasting of tax payer money by the Broward School system is legendary, yet nothing ever happens. In these tough economic times we can’t afford to waste taxpayer money. It also makes no sense to select the next State Attorney from the current office. Candidate Saranell Murphy has been a supervisor in that office for years and has done nothing to stop or fight public corruption. The status quo is quid pro quo, its time for real change, not just promises. I will set up a task force headed up by my chief investigator, and encompassing all investigative agencies in Broward to find public corruption and prosecute it. We can’t expect the federal government to always take the lead in fighting state corruption. I, Jim Lewis, if elected will target corrupt public officials and I will ”Put their Ass in Jail.”
