Tamarac supports businesses during COVID-19 with grants
The city of Tamarac recently launched efforts to support businesses during COVID-19. It began the Tamarac Together: Support Local Business campaign in late July and recently announced a Small Business Stabilization Grant program that offers $5,000 grants to eligible small businesses.
Using CARES Act emergency funds, the city is accepting grant applications Monday, Aug. 24 to Friday, Aug. 28. Visit Tamarac.org/EconomicDevelopment for information about eligibility and documentation, which business owners should prepare in advance.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy. Unfortunately, many are suffering financially, especially our small retail stores and restaurants,” Tamarac Mayor Michelle J. Gomez said in a statement. “These grants will provide some financial relief and ease the burden as they follow COVID-related health guidelines and capacity restrictions that keep the community safe.”
The city has partnered with the Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce for the Tamarac Together campaign that encourages everyone to buy goods and services from Tamarac-based businesses that also follow safety guidelines such as social distancing and requiring facial coverings. They are promoting businesses on social media as well.
“Our businesses, large and small, are doing their part to safely deliver goods and services. I see the efforts store owners and employees have put into making their businesses CDC compliant so that our residents and guests feel comfortable, safe and confident to shop in their stores,” Gomez said in a statement.
To further help businesses continue to operate during the pandemic, the city is temporarily allowing additional commercial signage and outdoor seating at restaurants while easing restrictions on businesses that bring in food trucks.
