Dodgers: Cody Bellinger and the Dodgers set the NL record for home runs in a month. Now they’ll keep pushing for the most series victories to start a season in the majors since 1969. Bellinger’s two-run HR gave the Dodgers 57 long balls in August after solo shots from Corey Seager and Will Smith, and the NL West leaders beat the host Rangers 7-2 on Sunday. The 10th HR of the season for Bellinger topped the Braves’ previous mark of 56 HRs in June 2019. The record came in the third inning of the Dodgers’ final game of August. The club is off Monday. The Dodgers, who have the best record in the majors, bounced back from a series-opening loss to the fading Rangers with consecutive wins. They now have 12 straight series victories to start the season — tied for the fifth-best season-opening run since 1969. The 1990 Reds have the record with 17 straight series wins to start the year. The Dodgers are among three teams next at 14.

Rays: Willy Adames hit a grand slam and the visiting Rays beat the Marlins 12-7 to finish a three-game sweep. Joey Wendle, Yoshi Tsutsugo and Kevin Kiermaier also went deep for the Rays, who have won 12 of their last 14 and have beaten the Marlins eight straight times since 2018. The Rays improved to an AL-best 13 games over .500. Blake Snell (3-0) allowed two runs on four hits in five innings. The 2018 Cy Young Award winner struck out five and walked two. The Marlins dropped under .500 (14-15) for the first time this season.

Cubs: Kyle Schwarber, Jason Heyward and Ian Happ each homered twice, and the Cubs pounded the host Reds 10-1 for a split of their four-game series. Schwarber hit the first and the last of the Cubs’ seasonhigh six HRs, belting a solo drive in the fourth against Luis Castillo (0-5) and a grand slam off Jose De Leon in the ninth. The NL Central-leading Cubs hit 14 HRs in the series. Cubs RHP Tyler Chatwood left in the third with right elbow discomfort . ... The Cubs acquired DH Jose Martínez in a trade for two players to be named or cash considerations.

Extra innings: Jonathan Schoop hit a tiebreaking HR in the sixth, and the visiting Tigers finished off a three-game sweep of the Twins with a 3-2 victory. The Tigers have won five straight to pull back to .500 on the season. The Twins have dropped five in a row. ... Rookie Luis Robert hit his first game-ending HR, a three-run drive in the 10th that gave the White Sox a 5-2 victory over the visiting Royals. Dane Dunning threw five no-hit innings before being pulled from his second major league start, and the surging White Sox won for the 11th time in 13 games to move into a first-place tie with Indians in the AL Central. ... Adam Wainwright turned back the clock with a complete game on his 39th birthday as the host Cardinals beat the Indians 7-2. The oldest active player in the majors, Wainwright (3-0) threw a four-hitter for his 23rd career complete game and first in four years. The Cards snapped a fourgame skid and ended the Indians four-game winning streak.
