- BY DAVID FURONES

The Miami Hurricanes were picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic Coast Conference’s preseason media poll and only had junior tight end Brevin Jordan named to the preseason AllACC team.

Clemson was chosen to finish first in the conference by a wide margin, getting 132 of the 134 first-place votes.

Notre Dame, which will play football in the ACC this season due to the schedule revisions from the coronavirus pandemic, was picked second. North Carolina, Louisville and Virginia Tech follow ahead of Miami with Florida State chosen to finish seventh.

Jordan was one of three John Mackey Award finalists for the nation’s top tight end last season.

He was also an All-ACC first-team selection as a sophomore and earned second-team honors as a freshman in 2018.

The Hurricanes likely would have had a second selection in redshirt sophomore defensive end Gregory Rousseau, but he opted out of the season ahead of training camp to declare for the 2021 NFL draft.

Star grad transfer quarterback D’Eriq King did not get in with Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence the preseason all-conference signal caller for the second straight season. Quincy Roche, the redshirt senior transfer from Temple who had 13 sacks last season, had Wake Forest’s Carlos Basham Jr. and Pittsburgh’s Patrick Jones II finish ahead of him in voting.

South Florida products to make the preseason team were Florida State cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., out of St. Thomas Aquinas, and Louisville wide receiver Tutu Atwell, from Miami Northwestern.

Miami, which went 6-7 last season, kicks off the season at 8 p.m. on Thursday night against UAB at Hard Rock Stadium before playing their 10 ACC games this season.

The Blazers, on Thursday night, beat Central Arkansas of the Football Championship Subdivision 45-35.
