PEMBROKE PINES – The second Miami Gardens man who was shot by a store manager while allegedly holding up a jewelry store at the Pembroke Lakes Mall is out of the hospital and out of jail.

Markess James Sherman, 31, was released from the Broward County Jail, Friday, on a $50,000 bond. His alleged accomplice, Marquise Jamaal Wiley, 31, was released from jail Thursday on a $50,000 bond. Both are charged with armed robbery, records show.

According to court documents, Sherman and Wiley entered the mall about 2:13 p.m. on Aug. 14 and walked into the Elite Fine Jewelry store where Pembroke Pines police say the masked men robbed the store.

Wiley shattered the glass display cases with a 16-ounce, foot-long claw hammer and Sherman grabbed the jewelry, according to the arrest report.

As employees ran and hid, the store’s manager pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired a total of five shots at both men, the report stated.

Sherman and Wiley were wounded, but managed to run out of the store before collapsing in the mall concourse. Shoppers called 911, and Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue took the accused men to Memorial Regional Hospital, where they were later arrested.

The day before the robbery, surveillance video showed two men — later identified by authorities as Sherman and Wiley — in the jewelry store. The men were browsing but they told store employees that they would return the next day, investigators said.
