Wiliams leads way for Amer. Heritage

Five-star prospect James Williams helped lead American Heritage to a win in a defensive showdown between two of Broward County’s top teams.

The Patriots beat the Lions 7-3 on Friday night, and Williams played a large role in stifling Chaminade. He had several big plays as the entire Heritage defense kept Chaminade out of the end zone. He finished the win with eight total tackles, including three for a loss, and two sacks.

Here are some more top performers in Broward and Palm Beach County high school football from last week:

Daemon Fagan | American Heritage: Fagan, a sophomore defensive back, didn’t start Friday’s win against Chaminade Madonna but made two key plays. He chased down Chaminade running back Thad Franklin to prevent a go-ahead touchdown and then brought in a game securing intercepti­on. Fagan picked up offers from Pittsburgh and Oregon in the days after the game.

Jamaal Johnson | Chaminade-Madonna: Johnson, a junior Miami Hurricanes commit, recovered one fumble and forced another on a strip-sack in the Lions’ 7-3 loss to American Heritage.

David Vadala | American

Heritage: The Patriots’ sophomore linebacker had eight total tackles, including two for a loss, in the team’s standout defensive performanc­e against Chaminade.

Isaiah Joseph | Calvary

Christian: Joseph rushed for 52 yards on five carries and scored a touchdown in the Eagles’ 50-0 win over Homestead Everglades Prep.

Thad Franklin | Chaminade-Madonna: Franklin had a hard time with American Heritage’s strong defense, but he still managed 83 rushing yards on 14 carries, including a 57-yard run late in the game.

Marquette Cozart | Calvary Christian: Cozart rushed for 49 yards on eight carries and scored twice as the Eagles routed Everglades Prep.

Will Prichard | King’s

Academy: The Lions’ sophomore quarterbac­k completed 17 of 30 passes for 221 yards and three touchdowns in King’s Academy’s 41-20 win over Glades Day.

Cole Baird | Calvary

Christian: Baird had six tackles and a pair of tackles for a loss in the Eagles’ shutout victory.

Dominick Rattay | King’s

Academy: Rattay led the Lions in rushing yards with 145 yards on 18 attempts and a rushing touchdown. He also had 55 receiving yards.

Micah Lewis | Westminste­r Academy: Lewis had a monster game running the ball against Boca Raton Christian, racking up 235 yards on 15 carries and scoring three touchdowns in the Lions’ 39-15 win.

Preston Martin | King’s Academy: Martin led King’s Academy with 79 yards and a pair of touchdowns on three receptions.

Zack Norris | Westminste­r Academy: The second part of Westminste­r’s two-headed rushing attack, Norris had 44 rushing yards but also found the end zone three times.

Stenton Quaye | King’s

Academy: Quaye, a senior defensive end, led the Lions with 10 tackles and had two tackles for a loss against Glades Day.

Antonio Scionti | Saint John Paul II Academy:

Scionti, a junior, rushed for a team-leading 86 yards and a touchdown and also threw for a score.

Jackson Worley | King’s

Academy: Worley racked up five tackles, three tackles for a loss and a pair of sacks in the Lions’ win.

Jamal Crawford | Saint John Paul II Academy:

Crawford caught three passes for 45 yards in the Eagles’ win over Berean Christian, all for scores.

Clayton Thevenin | Saint John Paul II Academy:

Thevenin had four tackles and a pair of tackles for a loss as the Eagles shut out Berean Christian. He also forced a fumble.
