Nine Hurricanes named All-ACC — but only one on first team

The Miami Hurricanes had nine players earn All-ACC honors as the conference released its three teams and honorable mention selections on Tuesday morning.

Only one Miami player, kicker Jose Borregales, made it onto the All-ACC first team.

The second team had four Hurricanes: Tight end Brevin Jordan, defensive end Jaelan Phillips, safety Bubba Bolden and punter Lou Hedley.

Chosen ahead of them at their positions: Boston College tight end Hunter Long, Pittsburgh defensive ends Patrick Jones II and Rashad Weaver — Weaver is a Cooper City grad — Virginia Tech’s Divine Deablo and Notre Dame’s Kyle Hamilton at safety and Georgia Tech punter Pressley Harvin III.

Borregales and Hedley were also named finalists for national awards at their positions on Tuesday. Borregales is a Lou Groza Award finalist, along with Jake Oldroyd of BYU and Will Reichard of Alabama. Hedley joins Harvin and Georgia’s Jake Camarda as Ray Guy Award finalists.

Miami had wide receiver Michael Harley and defensive end Quincy Roche make third team, and quarterbac­k D’Eriq King and defensive tackle Nesta Silvera were All-ACC honorable mention choices.

The quarterbac­ks ahead of King on the first, second and third teams, respective­ly, were Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, North Carolina’s Sam Howell and Notre Dame’s Ian Book.

Borregales made 18 of 20 field goals for Miami in the 2020 regular season with a long of 57 yards, plus connected on all 35 of his extra-point attempts.

Jordan had 30 receptions for 480 yards and five touchdowns in seven games. Phillips collected 45 tackles, 15 ½ for loss, eight sacks and an intercepti­on. Bolden had 65 tackles, four forced fumbles, two blocked kicks, a sack and three pass breakups. Hedley averaged 47.3 yards on his 46 punts with 13 downed inside the 20-yard line.

Harley led UM in all three receiving categories with 49 receptions for 730 yards and six touchdowns. Roche had 45 tackles, 14 ½ for loss, 4 ½ sacks, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

King completed 63.6 percent of passes for 2,573 yards, 22 touchdowns and five intercepti­ons, adding 520 rushing yards and four more scores on the ground. Silvera had 31 tackles, seven for loss, a sack and a forced fumble.
