Trump is, by any measure, the absolute worst president the U.S. has ever had. Astoundingly, he is even a worse loser. He has continued to lie about the results of the election, which has been certified as accurate in spite of his 60 lawsuits, all of which he lost. Today, Jan. 6, his cult-like supporters stormed the Capitol building in a traitorous attempt to prevent Congress from counting and certifying the Electoral College votes. Trump encouraged and supported this seditious action because he cannot accept losing. His call to the Secretary of State of Georgia, saying that he needed only 11,000 votes to win the election, is illegal on many levels. He wants to recalculate votes. He will be out of the White House in 14 days; prison should be his next type of public housing.

There is a dirty, faded American flag torn to shreds flying at the Marathon gas station at the corner of West Sunrise Boulevard and Northwest Seventh Avenue. A disgrace. I have complained and emailed Marathon customer service, but it continues to fly and disintegrate. Today, that flag seems so appropriate. It sadly represents the state of our disunion.

Please tell us when it’s treason? Inciting riots inside the U.S. Capitol building to protest a duly certified election is reprehensible. Spitting on our democracy is Donald Trump’s historical legacy. Add to that his failure to lead during the COVID pandemic, and the Trump experiment failed.

A shady businessman could not lead a great America. As I listen to some of Trump’s supporters espouse conspiracy theories, terrorism and writings from QAnon, I’m reminded of the Nazi propaganda machine. Sen. Ted Cruz with all his bluster and law degrees again soiled himself just as he did in 2016 when he couldn’t stand up to Trump’s verbal assault on his wife and father.

Things for all America to consider during the next 14 days: insurrection, impeachment, the 25th Amendment, patriotism, terrorism and treason.

In my 78 years on this earth, for the first time, today, Jan. 6, 2021, I am ashamed to be an American.

I was born in the United States and lived here 88 years believing in our democracy and the Constitution. With the recent assault on the Capitol, I think we should treat Trump like Napoleon and exile him to an island. The 12 senators that would not accept our election results should not be allowed to serve, as they obviously do not accept our democracy and Constitution. The people that attacked the Capitol should lose their citizenship, because they do not believe in our democracy and can join Trump on the island and form their dictatorship or communist regime or any other form of government they want. Let’s just get them out of our United States. Where are the Republicans like McCain, Bushes and Reagans?

Zelna Cohen, Coconut Creek

An an avid Trump supporter, there is no rationale for Trump supporters in Washington to storm the Capitol. It seems that there were around 10,000 people protesting and maybe 100 went into the Capitol. We don’t do that. We don’t act like the left-wing Antifa and BLM did in city after city for many months over the summer and fall. Of course, what all of those previous groups did during their “mostly peaceful protests,” as the media portrayed them, was 100 times worse than what took place today. I am saddened to even be put into any group that remotely comes close to those actions that we witnessed prior to today. Many of you are probably not even aware because it was mostly suppressed by our local print media.
