Man accused of shooting at Broward Sheriff ’s deputy is behind bars

WEST PARK — A 36-year-old man is facing an attempted murder charge after a shot was fired at a Broward Sheriff ’s deputy in West Park.

Johny Dabrezil was booked into the Broward County Jail at about 11 p.m. Wednesday after turning himself in, the sheriff ’s office said.

The incident began hours earlier, at about 4 a.m. Wednesday, when the deputy stopped to check on a car located behind Savage Beauty Supply in the 5700 block of W. Hallandale Beach Boulevard. A news release from the Broward Sheriff ’s Office indicated the car was “a suspicious” 2019 white Mercedes-Benz CLS 500, but did not say why.

As the deputy approached, the driver got out of the Mercedes and fired a shot, but missed both the deputy and his unmarked car, according to the sheriff ’s office.

The deputy gave chase, with lights and sirens blazing, but lost sight of the Mercedes near the 5700 block of Dewey Street.

Deputies and Hollywood officers set up a search perimeter and the car was located two blocks away, abandoned in the rear parking lot of Executive Towing and Recovery, just east of South State Road 7. Dabrezil and his juvenile passenger were nowhere to be found.

The juvenile passenger was later located and released, authorities said.

Dabrezil, who was ordered held without bond Thursday, faces charges including attempted felony murder and fleeing and eluding.

It’s the third shooting incident in that area since Dec. 5 when three men were wounded about one block away from the West Park shooting scene, and three New York men were fatally shot on Jan. 4 while driving along State Road 7, just south of there.
