LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

-

Ed. note: With these letters, we have published every letter we received regarding the events of Jan. 6, 2021 in Washington D.C., that met our 150-word length requirement, was sent exclusively to us, was coherent, was free from obscenity and was from someone who did not already send a letter on this subject. We published all letters received Jan. 6-10 on this subject in the order in which they were received.

For the past four years, we’ve watched the Republicans dance with the devil. They ignored his missteps, crudeness and meanness, and they continued dancing. And now, the music has stopped and the devil has gone berserk, attacking his dance partners and everyone in the room.

The motto to the story: When you dance with the devil, you get what you deserve. Mitchell Levinson, Parkland

The Boston Tea party of 1773 was over the same ideas as this latest protest in Washington. Only this week’s protest was more needed and honest. It’s about wanting honest elections. The people involved did not have criminal pasts. The flags all over the country should be at half-mast. Patrick Schroeder, Port St. John

Is this insurrection against our country what we want to leave our children and grandchildren?

We must take immediate legal action against all who have attempted to take over our United States of America and to destroy our country of laws.

All Americans must make sure that all political, educational and religious leaders unite in making sure what took place on Wednesday, Jan. 6 2021, will never happen again.

Bernard J. Klein, Boca Raton

I am deeply dismayed at the feeble, anemic attempt to block the President-elect from inauguration. Sen. Rick Scott knows truth as well as I do, and yet he sought to ignore the will of America’s strongest vote, which withstood all scrutiny, to usurp the will of voters. His behavior was anti-American and deeply offensive, especially in light of the attempt to overthrow congressional business in the people’s Capitol. I will make a special request of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to refuse Scott’s being seated, and I will work very hard against Scott’s run for reelection. Robert Ray, Pompano Beach Congratulations Marco Rubio, Rick Scott and even more Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley and Mike Pence! You have made it into the history books as one of the most repugnant Senates and administrations in the history of our republic. Crime after crime, you had Trump’s back. Despite clear grounds for impeachment, you held firm. Despite lies and conspiracy theories, you played along with the charade. You saw in Trump a political opportunity, a possible goldmine for campaign donations. Even in the bitter end, you held firm. Some of you held extremely steady! And for this you will be remembered — for complicity with our most dangerous and treasonous president. You will be remembered as examples of petty enablers of sedition, even treason, and as examples of how not to live a life.

Darrell Arnold, Surfside

Now that the junior senator from Florida has identified himself as being opposed to the U.S. Constitution by failing to vote for Pennsylvania’s electoral vote, he should follow his idol, the 45th President, by becoming ex-senator in four years. Herbert Fishler, Hollywood

Invoking the 25th amendment, a second impeachment, or simply allowing Trump to resign in disgrace is not enough. After what this man has done to our country and its citizens, he should be exiled and stripped of his citizenship. He should never again be allowed to defile our country, set foot on our shores, or enjoy the honor of being called an American.

Even prison would not be adequate punishment for this vile man.

Linda Ribner, Lauderhill
