Georgia gets best of Florida in interstate all-star game

- By Adam Lichtenstein

MIAMI — TRU Prep Academy standouts Emile Aime and Nick Vattiato got a chance to make plays in their last appearances in a high school uniform, but they could not lead Team Florida to a win over Team Georgia in the Florida-Georgia All-Star Game at Traz-Powell Stadium in Miami on Sunday night. Georgia scored a pair of touchdowns late to win 26-10.

“It was super fun,” Vattiato said. “All week — we got here on Thursday and had a game today on Sunday. It was a ton of fun just hanging out with the guys. I know we didn’t win, but just playing with the talent we were playing with, nothing beats it.”

Aime and Vattiato were two of the nine Broward players who suited up for Team Florida. Joining them were TRU Prep teammates Fredrick Cage, John Cannon, Shai Kochav and Dylan Robertson, Cardinal Gibbons’ Jertavis Black, Chaminade-Madonna’s David Richardson and Stranahan’s Kareem Harden.

Vattiato completed six of nine passes for 46 yards. Aime had 6.5 tackles and a sack. Cannon hit an early 35-yard field goal that put Florida on the board. Cage had me catch for about 5 yards. Harden and Richardson both saw time on the offensive line, and Kochav played as a long snapper.

“I was just playing the defense, playing high-level, doing everything I could to help the team,” Aime said.

The two teams stayed close for most of the game, with Cannon tying the game with a field goal in the second quarter. Georgia went ahead on a touchdown reception by Georgia Tech commit Leo Blackburn Jr., but Florida evened the game back up in the fourth quarter on a 2-yard run by Suwannee running back Jaquez Moore.

Georgia took the lead back late with a short field goal, and Florida aimed to come back and win, but a pair of pick-sixes ended the comeback attempt.
