A man is dead after two cars crashed on Florida’s Turnpike in southern Palm Beach County Sunday morning.

The two cars were traveling north on the Turnpike just after 5:30 a.m. near the exit for Boynton Beach Boulevard when the front bumper of one car collided with the rear bumper of the other, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Both crashed into the median wall and one rolled over. Both caught fire but the driver of one car, a 30-year-old man from Miramar, was able to escape. He was taken to Delray Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the other car was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither victim was immediately identified by officials. The crash was still under investigation Sunday afternoon.

PEMBROKE PINES — A 30-year-old woman was seriously injured after crashing a silver 2006 Toyota into a police car, causing a three-car pileup. Three others were injured, including two Pembroke Pines officers who were on a traffic stop, according to a police statement.

The crash happened at around 2 a.m. Sunday at the 13300 block of Pines Boulevard near Northwest 136th Avenue. Fire rescue crews had to use specialized tools to cut into the Toyota and rescue the woman — who police did not immediately identify — and her passenger. The eastbound lanes of Pines Boulevard were shut down for about six hours.

It started when two officers in separate patrol cars pulled a driver over on a traffic stop early Sunday morning. A police statement says the three cars were stopped in the road, and the police cruisers had their emergency lights activated.

According to police, the woman in the Toyota was driving east on Pines Boulevard, when she crashed into one of the police cars. The impact caused one cruiser to hit the other.

The woman and the passenger were cut from their car by fire rescue crews and taken to Memorial Regional Hospital. The woman had serious injuries, according to police. The two officers had minor injuries.

Police did not identify any of the people involved, including the officers, and did not provide any additional information Sunday afternoon.

The crash is currently under investigation, a police spokeswoman said.
