CVS Pharmacy on Wednesday kicked off its opening day of COVID-19 vaccine sign-ups at pharmacies in at least 13 South Florida cities.

The sign-up came a day after CVS announced it would be the latest company to join the vaccination effort in Florida. Gov. Ron DeSantis announced there were 81 participating locations through CVS Pharmacy, CVS Pharmacy y más, and Navarro Discount Pharmacy — including 67 in Miami-Dade County, two in Broward County and one in Palm Beach County.

Appointments are scheduled at www.cvs.com/ immunizations/covid-19vaccine, but the next sign-up date hasn’t been announced. “The appointments become available as vaccine supply comes in. There is no set day,” said spokeswoman Tara Burke.

The company would not specify the addresses of participating pharmacies, saying, “We want to prevent stores from being overwhelmed by those who may seek a vaccination without making an appointment.” Some addresses are shown on the registration website, however.

Here are the participating pharmacies:

Palm Beach County

■ Belle Glade, 101 South Main St.

Broward County

■ Plantation, 1802 N. University Drive.

■ Tamarac, 6900 N. University Drive.

Miami-Dade County

■ Hialeah.

■ Homestead.

■ Miami.

CVS joins Publix, Walmart and Southeastern Grocers, which includes Winn-Dixie, in distributing the vaccine through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program.

Publix resumed vaccination appointments Wednesday after a brief delay because of weather issues, but Palm Beach County — the only place that Publix is offering vaccines in the tri-county area — was not included. The company reserved more than 10,000 appointments in less than 1½ hours in Florida, said Publix spokeswoman Maria Brous.

Publix directed people back to their sign-up website at www.publix.com/covid-vaccine/florida for the next round at 7 a.m. Friday, but Brous could not say if Palm Beach County would be included.

Sign-ups are on hold for Southeastern Grocers Inc., the parent company of Winn-Dixie grocery stores, as well as Fresco y Más and Harveys Supermarket locations. One store in South Florida, a Fresco y Más in Miami, is offering vaccines. “Like other retailers, severe weather conditions are impacting shipments of additional COVID-19 vaccines to our stores for further administration,” according to a spokeswoman Wednesday.

Walmart announced Wednesday that it will run a “pop-up” vaccine site for three weeks at three locations statewide: Lauderdale Lakes, Orlando, and Jacksonville. The drive-thru site in Lauderdale Lakes will be at 3001 N. State Road 7 starting Thursday. Eligible patients can schedule a vaccine appointment by calling 833-886-0023.

In addition to the federal retail pharmacy effort, the Federal Emergency Management Agency soon will open four COVID-19 vaccination sites across the state that are expected to give thousands of shots a day and expand the vaccination effort to minority communities.
