Efforts of 3 local athletes lauded
Three local athletes earned scholarships from Florida Dairy Farmers for their performance on the field and in the classroom.
Spanish River’s Julia Horn, FAU High’s Zachariah John and Jupiter’s Ethan Lantzy were named to Florida Dairy Farmers’ All-Academic Team on Monday morning.
The organization awarded those three athletes and 21 other Florida athletes $1,700 college scholarships.
All 24 athletes are finalists for the Ronald N. Davis Scholar-Athletes of the Year award, which includes another $4,600 college scholarship.
Horn, a three-sport athlete (cross country, track and field and weightlifting) for the Sharks, has a 4.0 gradepoint average and is ranked first in Spanish River’s senior class. She was an All-County honorable mention in track as a sophomore, and she has the school record in the pole vault and shuttle hurdle relay.
Horn is the editor-inchief of the Spanish River student newspaper and has more than 500 hours of community service. She is planning to attend Stanford and study engineering.
John is a cross-country and track-and-field athlete at FAU High, where he has a 3.94 GPA. He was an All-County honorable mention pick in cross country in 2018 and 2019, and he was a second-team All-County selection in track and field in 2019.
John is a member of the FHSAA’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and he has accumulated more than 500 community service hours. He plans to attend Harvard and study neuroscience and aerospace engineering.
Lantzy, a cross-county and track-and-field athlete for the Warriors, had a 4.0 GPA and is sixth in his class at Jupiter.
Lantzy is a member of multiple honor societies and volunteered at several different organizations and plans on studying environmental science.
