Patricia A Flury (Patty)

Passed away April 2, 2021 at the age of 84, after a valiant battle with cancer. As with everything she did, she gave it her all and did not give up after her diagnosis. Patty worked at Memorial Regional Hospital for over 40 years, starting as a lab tech when the hospital had only 76 beds. She worked her way up to being the Administrator, overseeing hundreds of renovations and additions, which grew the hospital to over 800 beds under her tenure. She also served as the Chief Operating Officer of the Memorial Healthcare System. Patty was a classic role model; someone who worked hard and made it to the “top.” She had a kind of grace about her that inspired all to shine a little brighter, but was also known as a no-nonsense boss. She never made apologies for setting high standards, and often believed in people when they didn’t believe in themselves. She retired from her career with the hospital in 1998 and was elected Mayor of Dania Beach in 2001, where she steered the City from near bankruptcy to financial stability. Pat went on to serve on the City Commission for ten years. Having retired again, she went on to write several books.

Patty loved life, loved her family and this country. She enjoyed many activities including tennis, golf, and fishing. She and her life partner of 60 years, Lee, had lots of adventures together; one of their favorites was taking their boat to the Bahamas with their nephew Patrick. In addition to her talents in business and sports, Patty studied and enjoyed playing the piano.

Patty is survived by her loving and devoted partner Lee, her sister Phyllis, (Henry) brother Vinny (Odile) many loving nieces and nephews, her cat Ginger, and many friends. She will be greatly missed. A private service was held for family.
