Cardinals: Nolan Arenado homered against his former team, Adam Wainwright pitched threehit ball into the ninth and the Cardinals beat the Rockies 2-0 on Sunday in St. Louis. Yadier Molina hit an RBI double and Ryan Helsley got Josh Fuentes to ground into a game-ending double play with the bases loaded. The Cards completed a three-game sweep and have won nine of 11 overall. The Rockies dropped to an MLB-worst 2-14 on the road. Arenado was acquired from the Rockies in a blockbuste­r trade in February. The 39-year-old Wainwright (2-3) struck out five and walked three over 8

⅓ innings, improving to 11-1 against the Rockies.

Red Sox: Rafael Devers and Hunter Renfroe homered, Nick Pivetta won his third consecutiv­e start and the Red Sox edged the Orioles 4-3. The Red Sox have won five of six, improved to 12-4 on the road and at 22-13 own the best record in baseball. The Orioles fell to an MLB-worst 4-13 at home, including 0-6 against the Red Sox. Pivetta (5-0) allowed two runs and three hits in six to improve to 7-0 since being traded from Phillies in August.

Padres: Jake Cronenwort­h hit a splash shot, Fernando Tatis Jr. also connected off Johnny Cueto and the Padres roughed up the Giants 11-1. Padres starter Chris Paddack pitched three scoreless innings and left with a 5-0 lead. Ryan Weathers (2-1) followed with three more shutout innings. Cronenwort­h became the fourth Padres player to hit a drive in San Francisco Bay.

White Sox: Yermin Mercedes and Jose Abreu had three RBI’s each to help the visiting White Sox beat the Royals 9-3, finishing off a three-game sweep. It was the Royals’ eighth straight loss. Lucas Giolito (2-3) gave up one run, four hits, two walks and fanned two in five innings to earn the win.

Rangers: Adolis García hit his team-leading ninth HR and drove in a careerhigh five runs, Dane

Dunning struck out 10 in five innings and the host Rangers beat the Mariners 10-2. The last seven victories for the Rangers have come after falling behind, this time when they answered the Mariners’ two-run fifth for a 2-1 lead with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Dunning (2-2) left the mound trailing 2-1 after topping his previous career high of seven strikeouts.

Extra innings: OF Ronald Acuna Jr. suffered a left pinkie finger contusion after being hit by a pitch in the Braves’ 8-7 win over the Phillies on Saturday but still was in the lineup for Sunday night’s series finale . ... Giancarlo Stanton hit a game-ending single off Brad Hand in the ninth, and the Yankees beat the Nationals 3-2 on Sunday for their second straight walk-off win. The Yankees went 7-2 on their longest homestand of the season, improving to 18-16 . ... Tyler Anderson pitched eight solid innings and the Pirates held on in the ninth, beating the host Cubs 6-5. It was the Cubs’ first loss in six games. Anderson (3-3) allowed two runs on just four hits. Also, the Pirates moved rookie INF Ke’Bryan Hayes from the 10-day IL to the 60-day list. Hayes exited the second game of the season with a strained left wrist . ... Kyle Tucker hit a three-run HR and tied a career high with four RBIs as the Astros built a big lead early and held on for a 7-4 win over the visiting Blue Jays . ... Tyrone Taylor hit a two-out, tiebreakin­g single in the 10th, and seven Brewers pitchers combined on a six-hitter to beat the host Marlins 2-1. Josh Hader (3-0) pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts, lowering his ERA to 0.71 . ... Willy Adames hit a three-run HR in the fifth, Mike Brosseau added a tiebreakin­g drive the following inning and the visiting Rays held off the A’s 4-3 to avoid a series sweep. ... Jared Walsh hit a two-run double in the third and the host Angels held on for a 2-1 victory over the slumping Dodgers. The defeding World Series champs have dropped five straight series.
